Identify the entry that returned 403
Record the failed URL, timestamp, response text, and stage. An on-page message may differ from the HTTP response in developer tools. Remove cookies, tokens, and API keys from shared evidence.
| Entry | Inspect first | Not established by the code |
|---|---|---|
| grok.com website | Failed page, response body, request identifier | An IP ban or a need for residential routing |
| Sign-in redirect | Actual redirect domains, cookies, failed request | A requirement for grok.com and x.com to share one exit |
| xAI API | 403 response body, key and team permissions | The same restriction on the web account |
Check official status and the response source
Read xAI Status components, incidents, and update times for the relevant entry. Operational does not rule out individual request failures, permissions, or unreported issues.
Cloudflare documents several possible sources of 403, including origin permissions and security rules. A Cloudflare label or code does not reveal the exact rule. Preserve any request identifier for the site operator.
Isolate browser and sign-in behavior
Compare a fresh session
Keep the network fixed and use a fresh browser profile or private window. This tests session differences without eliminating every device setting.
Check blocked scripts and storage
Temporarily adjust relevant script or cookie blocking for the affected site, retest, and restore it. Do not assume a timezone or language change is required.
Follow observed redirects
Inspect other domains only when they occur in the actual sign-in flow. Domain differences do not establish an undocumented OAuth risk mechanism.
Use network differences as evidence to investigate
Keep device, browser, and account conditions fixed while testing another permitted, known working network. Record request and exit changes. Recovery suggests investigating the path; it does not prove the reason for a block.
This site reads supported exit-echo endpoints, not the x.com exit, so it cannot report consistency between both domains. A 403 does not establish blocked UDP or a requirement for TUN.
- Separate website requests from API calls.
- Compare one routing rule at a time and restore test settings.
- Do not treat residential IP labels or environment scores as access guarantees.
Handle API 403 and persistent failures
For API requests, xAI documents missing action permissions or a blocked API key or team as 403 causes. Inspect the response and contact the team administrator or official support. These API rules do not establish the cause of a web error.
Provide redacted timestamps, entry URLs, responses, request IDs, and controlled comparisons. Account and regional eligibility require their own review; avoid rapid repeated retries.
